What do you expect from the Ying Yang Twins these days? Southern hip hop? Shitty horn rap? Crunk? The whisper song II? Naw fuck that. Consider this: a Beastie Boys sample and techno party beat trendy enough for any obnoxious hipster music blog. Now we're fucking talking. I scratch my head as to how this happened. Nonetheless, the new Ying Yang Twins single, "Drop", employs musical tactics one would more expect to find from SebastiAn remix than from a bunch of huge crunk assholes down south. Not that they're rapping about anything new, but the change of pace is nothing less than hilarious.

Breakbot Just Blew My Mind

Breakbot is from Paris. The way music has been lately, you should know from that information alone that its gonna be good, and it is. Breakbot's original tracks and remixes alike have a very Justicey feel to them, lots of interesting and complex beats with eerily perfect vocals to match. The end result is good electronic music that you don't have to be high on ecstasy to enjoy all the time.

This first track is a remix of a PNAU (a band I also highly recommend and may blog about further on a later date) song called "Baby". If you ever wished for a more mellow D.A.N.C.E. this is the track for you. Also posted is an original Breakbot track called "Happy Rabbit" which is just a good song.

Kitsune 5

The fifth edition to the ultra party compilation was released at the begining of this month so by hipster standards its old news. None the less Kitsune Maison vol. 5 is noteworthy. With big names like MIA Yelle and Fisherspooner backed up with a fistfull of up and comers like The Teenagers and DatA (the dopest) It is a solid Lineup to jam out to.

New Ghosthustler ... Awesome

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I wish I had another way to describe Ghosthustler, but awesome is all too fitting. Every track they touch turns into hot fire and literally burns right in front of them ... okay that might be getting a little extreme, but its true. When listening to Ghosthustler you will want to do one of two things; either dance ... a lot, or, hop in a car and drive fast with the music up real loud. Thats it, I'd try to better explain what they sound like but all you'd get is synth, awesome, dance, more awesome and so on. Listen to the music, you will not be disappointed...

Two Post Tuesday?? ... The Mystery Jets

Looking at the blog today I realized that with my last post I've ousted indie rock/pop from the front page. As this is something I just can't stand for, I thought I'd break my usual one post a day habit to bring you some new(ish) indie pop. The Mystery Jets are from Eel Pie Island in London (yes there somehow is an island in London and they named it after seafood baked goods), and make some pretty awesome musics. They put out a UK only release in 2005 which had some commercial success hitting 36 on the UK charts. Since then they've been building indie blog notoriety with a slew of remixes including one by the french musical wizards known as Justice. Their new album "21" will be released on the 24th of march and features the lead single "Young Love". The song is indie pop in all its glory. English accents, distraught lovers, and a catchy melody. Anywho the music speaks for itself...

Remember that band The Roots

Remember the Roots? ... yeah they slipped me too. Their last CD came out almost 2 years ago now and even though they've been a band longer than I've been alive (seriously 1987 ... wtf) I had forgotten how good they were. Even though their new CD "Rising Down" doesn't have an estimated release date yet, they have a new track floating around the net. "75 Bars" is exactly that, 75 bars of ?uestlove thuggin it on drums and Black Thought putting down a two and a half minute verse, no chorus (he don't need it), and proves he can still flow with the best of em. I wouldn't expect the song to be a hit, or even a single, but its a shining example of how The Roots can still get it done, even if they are 20+ years in the game.

The Cool Kids get their grown man on

Well everyones favorite 80's loving rappers Chuck Inglish and Mikey Rocks aka The Cool Kids are back on the grind taking time off of their Australian tour to release the lead single off their upcoming EP "The Bake Sale". The new track is called "Action Figures" and is the neon duo's first take on rap of a little more serious note, i.e. not just pagers and bicycles. Although everyone else already is rapping about the plight of the ghetto, its a fresh twist for the Cool Kids. The highlight is certainly their surprisingly good flow compared to the slightly disjointed nostalgia raps of past tracks. The beat is extremely stripped down but allows the two Chi-Town MCs to take the spotlight. Who said the Eighties were dead? Anywho, the music speaks for itself...
