Hollywood Holt

i like to think of him as a friend of a friend. Hollywood Holt and the Cool Kids are homies which makes us basically best friends. i dont really know what to think of him as a whole yet but he has some cool tracks. just like every other rapper, he has recorded his own lyrics over Throw Some Ds, but this time i am pretty stoked because the whole thing is rapping about shitty mopeds. also he released a mix tape which you can download here.
here a couple off the mixtape and a remix.

Lil Wayne Wednesday #1

Welcome to Wednesday. When we first started this blog one of the things I wanted to do was have a sweet weekly theme post (i.e. remix sunday on palms out) and what better musical artist to fulfill this than the best rapper alive. I know if there's one thing that'll get me through hump-day, its Lil Wayne. This first song is Jay-Z's "Hello Brooklyn" which features our man lil wayne, but as a little twist its the Hood Internet's remix mashing hov and the carter with Xiu Xiu (a bay area indie band that I've never heard of... but it sounds good). Anyway its a good song and Weezy brings it so have a nice wednesday...

PS: weezy's facing felony drug and weapons charges for his bust the other day, so start making your free weezy shirts now....

Gnarls is Back

Remember two summers ago? Yeah me neither, however that happened to be the time when the world became enthralled by a certain band named Gnarls Barkley and their hit song "Crazy". Well the duo of Cee-Lo and the musical genius known as DJ Danger Mouse are back at it again. Today they announced their soon to be released 2nd album will be named "The Odd Couple" no official date yet but expect one soon. Additionally this morning I came across a new Gnarls single (care of the Panda Toes blog) titled "Run" which may or may not be their new smash hit. I thought I'd post it here though so in case it ends up being the new Crazy you can say that you had it way back in January, I know thats what I'll do....

The Reduction Agents...

Well its snowing here in Eugene and I don't feel like going to class so I thought I'd introduce the blogosphere to yet another New Zealand band that has tickled my fancy as of recent. The Reduction Agents hail from the Kiwi capital of Auckland and play fun happy indie pop music. I discovered the band when I heard their song "80's Celebration" in the NZ indie flick "Eagle vs Shark", starring the Conchords own Jemaine Clement. Lyrically 80's Celebration makes very little sense but what it lacks in coherence it makes up in awesome. If you listen to this song and don't have great time you should probably see a physician... because you're suffering from some sort of illness... party on.

PS: Hype Machine tells me that no other blog around has posted this band... yeah yeah yeah

Mike Relm Sunday

It is sunday, which means last night i went to the blue man group. they were awesome as usual with there cover of baba o riley but what really got my attention was their opening act Mike Relm. i have never seen any one use a dvd turntable in such a manner. he took everything i know and love about motioin pictures and made them wobble back and forth while making cool scratch sounds. i dont think anyone has seen an o face like this before. he also mixes The Outfield with NWA, WTF does he think he is.

Ladyhawke Rocks My Socks!!

New Zealand knows their shizz. First Flight of the Conchords comes out and turns my world upside down with hilarity and now this bird-lady-person throws down some crazy good old-fashioned pop. Hailing from Wellington (same as Bret) Ladyhawke proves that you don't need an actual CD, or EP for that matter, to make some good musics. Her ballad "Paris is Burning" harkens to drunken tomfoolery in the city of lights that everone can either relate to or dream of.. but if a bottle of vino and a plane to Paris isn't in the cards for you right now, at least you have something to dance to... Ladyhawke.

Who is Rhymefest??

I like Michael Jackson. Say what you will about his nose(s) and the whole Jesus Juice thing, his music is good. And as it turns out I'm not the only one who thinks this. Chicago rapper Rhymefest, best known for his work co-writing Kanye West's "Jesus Walks", throws down an entire MJ tribute album enititled "Man in the Mirror: The Michael Jackson Tribute Album". For the beats he enlists Mark Ronson who does his best Kanye impression with an MJ soul sample on every track.  Top that off with guest spots by rappers like Ghostface KillahTalib Kweli and Wale. as well as the apt rapping skills of Rhymefest himself (so thats how kanye learned how to rhyme for one song!!) you get a fun album full of  MJ nostalgia as well as some pretty good songs. The whole album is free to download or just listen off of Rhymefest's website (see link below) and ive posted one of my personal fav tracks here as well...

Bloggin Time!!!/ Ghosthustler is rad

Hey there... Thanks for checking out the new spot me and ronte are throwing together. We're looking to spread the word about music we think is cool and other tight shit in general.  Soooo here goes nothing.....

As the title of this post implies, Ghosthustler is RAD. Really rad. You can't hate on heavy synth beats, and when you mix that with vocals ranging from soulful disco to disorganized psuedo-punk yelling you always get a win. This track is no more than three weeks old and is claimed to be in demo state but ballin nonetheless. Anywho the music speaks for itself....

PS: The homies over at The Hood Internet did a pretty money mash-up of Ghosthustler's "Parking Lot Nights" with Rick Ross' "Hustling". peep the link below
